Northern Mocking bird

Wednesday
Such a welcome sight to see blue skies and sunshine this morning after 3 dismal days, the last two with almost non stop rain again, causing more flooding and landslides in various locations. Fortunately, our house is not in an area likely to flood, and so far (touch wood!) our basement is staying dry! After our early start ( for us!) yesterday, we enjoyed a bit of a lie in this morning, then after breakfast, I continued putting things back in the family room. Late morning we went out for a swim, stopping at Pioneer Park on the way. However, we discovered that the sun was rather deceptive as there was a biting wind. Still, it was good to be in the fresh air after two wet days, and I managed to get this blip of the Northern mocking bird.
This evening we were out for dinner followed by a musical at the Playhouse in the Park. For Christmas, our daughter Laura had bought us vouchers for the Playhouse and for Nada, a Mexican restaurant we enjoy, so tonight we put them to good use as an early Valentines Day celebration. We usually have hand bells and choir practice Thursday night, so we thought we couldn’t celebrate on the night - though as it turns out, Dan our choir director told us last week he was going to give us the week off, and Debbie is making it a shortened hand Bell practice, but it was already booked by then, and we probably wouldn’t have got tickets or dinner reservation for Valentines Day itself anyway! Dinner was delicious as alway and the musical was excellent - “In the Heights”, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote Hamilton. The story is set over the course of three days, involving characters in the largely Hispanic-American neighbourhood of Washington Heights in New York City and is a vibrant high energy performance. So, thank you Laura, we had a great night out!
