Little Free Library

This is a different type of post for me, meaning it is not flora, fauna or landscape related.  I had hoped to get a bird photo today, but there were none to be had.  Instead, this wooden box, at the front entry of the nature center, caught my eye.  I've narrowed in on the front "door" because the background was so busy.  We actually have two of these boxes in my neighborhood, one right down the street.   You may have seen them, they stand on a post, often in a person's yard.  I have exchanged books there, as is the intent, but I never researched the origin of the program.  So I googled littlefreelibrary.org for info.  The website states:

Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.

The organization was started in 2009 in Wisconsin.  An interested participant can purchase the little wood "houses" on the website.  I wonder how much I would have used this resource when I was a child.  I remember a bookmobile that used to drive around my community, and how excited I got in the summers when I could climb aboard that moving library and choose the world I would explore that week.  There's nothing like a great book.
