Because I'm worth it.......?
I've spent a couple of days in Newmarket, Suffolk so first thing this morning went in search of a blip amongst the hundreds of race horses that were being taken out for their morning exercise. It was bitterly cold - I don't think the temperature's risen above freezing all day - and very foggy. Not exactly ideal conditions for taking photographs, or for that matter going for a canter on a skittish race horse!
It's really hard to get a decent shot of the horses - you can't get too close because they're very jumpy (no pun intended!) but they are such beautiful creatures that I decided to give it a go.
One of the stable 'lads' (a nice lady in her 50s) was on 'ground' duty in case anyone fell off and she explained how they vary the horses' diet so they're not quite so bouncy in the early stages of training. Then a jockey pointed out Hydrogen who I think is the most expensive yearling in the country having just been bought by Sheikh Fahad of Qatar for 2.5m guineas, or £2.625m!
I don't envy the jockey given the responsibility of getting his charge across icy roads without mishap.
Here's to the things you learn because of blip!
