beyond the pale
A trip up north is imminent, and there are things I need/want to do before we leave. One of these was (inspired by HarlingDarling's recent cultural exploits) to visit an exhibition in Dumfries called "Beyond the Pale" by Zoe Childerley.
For this project, Zoe walked the length of the border between England and Scotland. On the way she collected material, took some stunning photographs and created a multimedia work which poses questions about borders in general. Her walk coincided with the Brexit vote and the artworks encompass current worldwide events as well as the violent history of the Debatable Lands.
I was fascinated by this exhibit of Dymaxion Globes. These are explained properly HERE, but basically it's a way of mapping the world which does not distort the relative shapes or sizes of the land masses, revealing, in their inventor, Buckminster Fuller's, own words, "a One World Island in a One World Ocean" and a nice antidote to Brexit madness.
