North & South
My Dear Fellow & Dear Princess,
As predicted, Caro and myself were moving a lot slower today. Though not as slow as OrkneyCaro and G-Man. He was feeling particularly bad, and suffering from The Fear over his speech from the previous night.
"Ach you were fine," I told him.
"Classic G-Man," said Caro.
"Aw shit," he responded.
But I'm getting ahead of events a bit. The hotel where we were staying had a stupidly early check-out time of 10am, so Caro and me went to "Styx" a seaside brekky place recommended by a taxi driver.
"You can go there, or you can go to the 'Sprig and Fern', or as it's known locally, the 'Frig and Sperm' hahahahahahahahaaaa," she said, nudging me.
We went to Styx.
Actually the taxi driver was great. Everyone in Nelson was really friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the place. Our English waitress in Styx positively vibrated with enthusiasm.
"It's a bit much," I said. "We're having trouble forming words this morning."
She understood and took it easy on us. She also recommended breakfasts for the both of us and was very attentive throughout, asking if we were starting to feel better.
We were. It was lovely, eating a cooked breakfast sitting in the shade on a beautiful sunny day by the sea. People walked by with happy dogs and even the seagulls seemed in a good mood.
OrkneyCaro and G-Man picked us up and took us to the airport. They didn't have to do that; I told them this, but they were insistent. But OrkneyCaro snatched the car keys from her husband.
"He's USELESS when he drives hungover," she admonished. "He can't make a decision. We went past the same car park spot three times."
It doesn't take long to fly from Nelson to Wellington. About 30 minutes. There is actually a point in the flight when you can see both the North and South islands and realise just how close they are. Today's blip is of Picton, this is the town you land in if you take the the Inter-Islander ferry out of Wellington. I keep meaning to do this. I think it would be a lovely trip.
And if there are eggs and bacon on the other side, so much the better.
S.
