In the naked garden

here's my birthday girl
a book of haiku in hand

The book is by 18th century Japanese poetess Chiyo-ni (the English would be something like "Female Buddhist Priestess in the Naked Garden"). I was struck by the beauty of the book itself, before being charmed by the poetry. It made an obvious present for J. on her birthday. She loved it.
