Malachite sunbird
We were very slow to get started today, and breakfasted in the garden, watching the birds on the feeders. This is a malachite sunbird in "eclipse plumage" - in other words he's not looking for a mate, so he's got his second best clothes on! I still think he's a wonderful colour. He's drinking from a specially designed nectar feeder.
Eventually we dragged ourselves out for a drive. Yesterday we avoided dirt roads, but there was no way W was getting away with that any longer. So we went looking for minor roads and scenery. And we found both.
In extras is a Kopje - literally a small cup - a particular type of small pointed hill. When we saw this one, I initially believed it was man made. I'm reading Story of an African Farm by Olive Schreiner at the moment, and had read in there about a Kopje near the farm. So it was interesting to identify one in real life.
We spotted a flock of sacred ibis as they flew over. And just generally had a lovely drive. We ended up in Worcester, where we struggled to find anywhere to buy a drink, settling for a Wimpy!
Then we took an indirect route back to Bonnievale, stopping for a wine tasting. ZAR30 (less than £2) for 5 generous samples each, and we came away with 3 bottles. There was a lovely, venerable pepper tree by the veranda, and one of the wines was called after it - we had to buy that.
