Hips don't lie

On a clear cold day,
Scarlet jewels on the bare briar,
Shining, catch my eye.

Not only do rose hips look good, they actually are good. Little packets of Vitamin C and anti-oxidants, they have been used for years as an aid to health.
Children used to be given Rose Hip syrup, especially during and after the 2nd World War when fresh fruit was scarce. I wonder if you can still get it.

Apparently they are good for guinea pigs and chinchillas too, which can't manufacture their own vitamin C.

One thing I didn't know, was that the fine hairs found inside rose hips can be used as itching powder ...... how did someone find that out I wonder ....?
