The slaughter of the whales

This afternoon I will be talking to the village Cronies, a group of people of mature years. The subject for discussion today will be the history of the 19th century Scottish  whaling industry in the Arctic ocean. 

The "extra" shows one of the uses to which the unfortunate whales' baleen was put; corsets to achieve a fashionably narrow waist.  An eye-watering 14 inch waist was the target!
