...from the afternoon walk, this a tail feather from 28 parrot.
From what I can gather the way a feather develops its colour is based on pigments and how the feather is constructed and reflects and refracts light.
Very intriguing are the birds that have eaten plants that contain carotenoids will be red, orange or yellow....a flamingo is pink because of the blue green algae and shrimp in their diet. As their liver breaks down the carotenoids, the molecules are sent to the skin, legs, beak and feathers of the bird.
While the blues and greens of this parrot feather are due to their feather structure.
