Splitters

So, we have a new political force, riding in to restore our fractured politics.

I’m not convinced personally - don’t get me wrong, there is certainly a cavernous gap to fill between the two main parties, but without proportional representation I don’t see how it can be.

Owen Jones repeatedly states that there is no support for ‘centerist’ policies, but that is just disingenuous wish fulfilment - much like the people who say that 80% of people voted at the last election for parties committed to Brexit. This is true, but only because there was no viable choice, so a lot of people voted for the major party they hated least.

The situation feels unsustainable - a binary choice between two very different options - but at the moment it is hard to see how that changes.
