Christmas preparations
One Street 6
This 1960's building is the one you see as you descend Long Lane - not sure which road it is actually on - Wilsden or Harden Road - as it is set diagonal to the roundabout and forms the third part of the triangle that surrounds the junction (the other two bits are yesterday's Old Police House and the War Memorial currently with Christmas tree.)
It is not a very attractive building but was built in order to remove the original four square stone built one that housed a butcher's shop and a general purpose shop. These were removed as it was deemed necessary to widen the road. (This would have been beyond the building you can see here sticking out into the existing road.)
Here you can see our very popular butcher Gary's shop. He is taking orders for Christmas and will soon have Turkeys on display. (You may not be able to read the window from here but he has actually put ' Now takin Christmas orders'. Bless. We will be queuing for one of his wonderful pork pies and other meats very shortly with lots of other villagers.
Below is the Post Office and Paper shop, also essential parts of our Christmas preparations. Both were built before the old building was demolished - set back from the road - I think they must have knocked some of the end houses from Lane End down to accommodate it, but there is now room for two large raised flower beds to add some colour to the village centre in summer. The Parish Council usually plant these.
