Sea dogs and other marine creatures

The sun was dazzling this afternoon and there was a low tide bonanza.
Raki is not keen on getting her paws wet but she enjoyed scampering on the sand  - unaware that another 'canine' life form was lurking close by: dog whelks with a cluster of egg capsules were waiting for re-immersion (first extra).

Also revealed by the retreat of the sea were limpets and barnacles cemented on the rocks,  beadlet anemones closed except for one, honeycomb worm reefs, kelp dangling its strands in the briny and multitudes of mussels for supper.

None of these species are rare but they are vulnerable to climatic change and to pollutants from the land and from shipping. On a positive note,  news reports today confirmed the discovery of a giant Galapagos tortoise long thought to be extinct, and in Indonesia the  capture of an enormous bee not seen for 38 years.
