Unsalted roads

It was another icy start and the temperature has barely been above freezing all day. The main roads are salted but the hundreds of back roads are not. Sliding off one of these might not appear, from this shot, too problematic but, in fact, many of the roads have a deep dyke at one or both sides. Every year a few people end up in a dyke, sometimes with fatal consequences. I carry a hammer in the car in case I need to break a window to escape!
