Friendly Neighbours

This morning, we were surprised to find activity in the field that backs on to the property. The farmer who works it had appeared, with his son, and was attacking a huge earth mound that had been there for many years. We thought he was coming back in Autumn to do it, but he said that the sun was shining, he could not do anything else that day, so just got on with it. It was a hugely overgrown area, with brambles, walnut trees (self-seeded), various other trees and plants that was off our land, but which dumped leaves in our pool in late summer. A chance chat with him a few weeks ago generated his first effort to clear it. He had come back early to finish the job. We now have a clear boundary line with no risk to the cleanliness of the pool. What’s more, he didn’t even have to do it. Just kindness. He also, incidentally, gains a good 250 sq m of useable field for his crop. Not completely altruistic, but nice all the same. Extra pic is of the cleared area with Mrs SoL near one of our uncovered bornes in the background.
