Kite Eating Tree

This tree lives out its days near my parents house. I recently saw the exhibition Good Grief, Charlie Brown! at Somerset House in London. Among Charlie Brown's many travails is the Kite Eating Tree, and I was reminded of this particular specimen. 
I have never dared put my hand into that hole, worried I might find the remains of its last meal, whatever that could be. In reality maybe the tree isn't all that well, and even home to a grateful group of birds and bugs. And that stuff-of-nightmares look just me anthropomorphising. Maybe.
