Hopton Hall

A short trip out to Hopton Hall to enjoy todays beautiful  summer winter weather. The Hall opens its gardens for a month each year to share its masses of snowdrops and for another month when its formal rose gardens are in full bloom. The Hall is privately owned by Bill and Julie Thomas who have improved the gardens over recent years since they took ownership. The Hall was originally passed through the family of the Gells who are one of Derbyshire’s most colourful families. Bill Thomas made his money working for EDS, he and his wife had started from very humble beginnings. They upsized to this in 2010 after he retired early. Quite an undertaking.
