Todmorden Town Hall

Todmorden Town Hall straddles the river (Walsden Water) which used to  mark the boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire until the county boundary was moved on January 1st 1888 locating Todmorden wholly within Yorkshire.
Its most striking feature is the pediment. The carved stonework denotes the fact that the boundary went through the middle of the Town Hall.  The left side represents Lancashire (cotton spinning industry) and the right Yorkshire (engineering and agriculture).
