Baron Young of Dartington
If you're not familiar with the work of Michael Young I suggest that you look at his achievements. He started the National Extension College which was a prototype for The Open University. He also founded the Open College of the Arts and the University of the Third Age. And that's just the big stuff! He took a peerage because it gave him free rail travel and an attendance allowance which he needed because he'd run out of money. Follow that link to Wikipedia and look at the list of institutions established with his involvement. He was also a prolific writer and he coined the word "Meritocracy". A busy bloke and a Mancunian
