In Parenthesis is the kind of book Folio Society excels at bringing to light for future generations.

Melvin Bragg writes at the beginning of his introduction to History of the English Church and People, "Read Bede. If you want to learn about the origins of the English Christian faith, the warriors and women, the sacrifice, violence and enterprise of the English people who were later to flood across the world, read Bede." This edition replaces my old Penguin paperback.

There is Troilus and Cressida, Heloise and Abelard, Romeo and Juliet, and then there is Dante and Beatrice . . .
