Split Apple Rock

This afternoon we discovered this unusual rock formation in a small cove in the Abel Tasman National Park.
Known as Split Apple Rock, the naturally occurring rock formation is located just off the coast between Kaiteriteri and Marahau. It’s made of granite and estimated to be around 120 million years old.

Fortunately for us, the near perfect weather continues on the South Island, although rain is desperately needed. There have been serious forest fires near the Nelson area recently and water restrictions are already in place.
