Diary of an Edinburgher

Progress!

To add to the drama yesterday evening - unable to use water (apart from the toilet, thank goodness) - the lights fused and we were in darkness. Thank goodness for phone torches! I had a guess on the fuse board, stabbing at a random switch. Bingo! I rang an emergency drain unblocker, who came about midday today. So much for the emergency...

Anyway, all sorted. A bit of acid down the outside drain, and as it's a communal pipe, I was able to send the other three flats above us a wee bill.

It was ALL GO again today. Our two chaps have been really busy all day, putting up the ceiling. This involves a lot of measuring and cutting and more measuring and getting the downlights in exactly the right position. I've always wondered how they did that.

Also, the window chaps came and finished them. Double glazed and gorgeous. They'll paint the exteriors tomorrow, and our contractors can finish the insides. Fortunately we had great weather for those windows - who'd've thought it in February!

Andrew, the boss, came back to either forgot, or was too busy to come back to reconnect the water pipe in the kitchen He rang, but I couldn’t quite understand him. Yay! We'll have water in the sink and down the plug hole this evening tomorrow morning. We take water flowing from taps and down plug holes for granted!

Libby took Archie out for a big long walk, so he escaped for a while, though he loves seeing all the chaps and hanging out with them in the dusty kitchen. JR went to her 9am fitness session, then popped off for a coffee with one of her gym pals.

This beautiful weather is such a treat, though you know it's still winter because the evenings get very cold very quickly. Here's Archie hogging the fire. Until he gets too hot, in about five minutes.
