Slugs and Cranes
Not the prettiest photo I've taken today, but, inspired by a a six-minute video that Kendall posted about a banana slug, decided to have a closer look. Like the banana slug, this colour doesn't appear very clever, then I realized it looks exactly like the stones that are everywhere on our Land, so put one to show you.
Woke to a damp, misty morning with slugs everywhere. Was feeling quite warm towards them until I realized they'd bitten off the emerging flower from every bulb that had managed to push through the ground. Anyway, watch the video, it's lovely and does explain the point of these disgusting creatures.
Mike bought a hydrometer yesterday, which enabled him to discover that one cell of one of our four huge batteries (6 volt) is totally dead, so tomorrow we go to Santarém to buy another, and tonight we'll have no electricity.
Gratefuls:
- waking to a different beauty from yesterday, all soft and misty
- some sunshine to give us enough electricity during the day to pump water
- a flock of about 120 cranes flying overhead, honking (see extra)
