All I want is an unlock code

The dorks at Vodaphone have taken over a week to give me the info to unlock my handset and they want me to put the Vodaphone SIM in.
A bit tough that seeing as they destroyed my standard sized SIM when they provided a new microSIM for my new phone.
I've told them this twice but the idiots seem incapable of realising I have a contract but not the right sized SIM.
I own this handset and I want it unlocked so we can put country specific PAYG SIMs in when we travel abroad.
