Bringing in the Bait-fish

It's always exciting when the fishing boats return to port. While I was waiting for the sun to go down, 3 different ships returned...two filled with bait fish (herring), and one loaded with bigger fish. The problem? It was pushing 6 p.m., so there was no one around to help them unload the goods.

So, this boat was unloading, and the other two iced down their catch to unload in the morning. As for the unloading...the bottom of the net is cinched, and the net dips into the holding bin. One guy fills the net, while another guy directs the net to the metal conveyor...and dumps it. The herring travel to the top where they go in a huge container...and the pelicans wait for the ones that don't make it into the container. WHEW!

Some of the fishermen aren't very friendly (especially to a camera-toting tourist) but this captain in the white boots is a pretty nice guy. (When I left he said..."This is better than going to the movies, eh?" Yes...yes it is.

As for the setting sun, I put an extra into my Extras.
