Memorial

near the town of Boston UK, to the first sailing of the Pilgrim fathers, 1607, bound for Leiden but intercepted a few miles away, brought back as prisoners and eventually released. In 1620 they set sail again, this time  from Plymouth - a major south coast port, their ship the Mayflower, successfully bound for America.

Turn 180 deg and you see the river they started down, seawards is to the left, shown in the extra.

The church in Boston is St Botolph's. The name Boston is said to be a contraction of Botolph's town.
