To Tassie
...on the Spirit of Tasmania. We had to get up at silly o’clock to leave in the dark and drive up to Port Melbourne to catch the ship to Devonport. We left bang on time but ran into a problem when we had travelled half an hour into the 45 min expected journey. The route took us along the waterfront direct to the wharf but there was a triathlon being held there. It’s very hard to exit a race with a caravan when you don’t know where you should be going. We ended up going up narrow one way streets and doing a U turn across a raised median strip...with a few caravans behind us in convey. Crazy. When we arrived we had to double park for 2.5 hours before we could be loaded onto the ship as there was a cruise ship in port. All this made us very late leaving and very late arriving in Devonport. seriously Melbourne, something needs to be done...and I am being tolerant here, just my opinion. We were lucky as everyone who arrived after us had to go away and come back as there was no place to double park ( as directed by traffic control officers).
Good crossing in slight seas. We had recliner chairs so were comfortable enough for the 9.5 hour journey. We were on deck 3 with other caravans and semi trailers. All stacked in like sardines but it was well organised apart from the lack of port facilities. Tomorrow we join the in-laws who we travelled with last year.
Not much creative photography happened but I did venture out on deck to get the sun shining through the clouds at one stage. I couldn’t believe how many vehicles were put onto that ship, deck after deck of them....
