Porto Moniz

Last day of our holiday and we booked an excellent tour of the west side of the island of Madeira. This is the dramatic sea view at Porto Moniz where we saw the amazing lava swimming pools. According to the guide book a tongue of volcanic lava flowed into the Atlantic thousands of years ago : it cooled and was carved by the sea into a series of protected pools .
