Varyag
This anchor was salvaged from the Russian ship Varyag which sank in 1920 off the coast of Ballantrae while being towed to Germany. In 1904 the ship was scuttled by the Japanese after a brave battle by the Russian crew. It was later raised, renamed, repaired and used by the Japanese before eventually being returned to Russia and given its original name. There is a memorial tablet and bronze cross as well which were unveiled in 2006 & 2007. I stopped to take a photo on the way to the caravan for a few days.
