Chartres in the Cite de l'Architecture
I visited Paris's huge architecture museum today. I wanted specifically to see a small exhibition (closing today) on the so-called Crac des Chevaliers--a large and well-preserved castle in Syria that played a major role in the Crusades of the 12th century (Wikipedia spells it Krak :) The show was at the end of the two long parallel curving galleries (see the map) which display full-size plaster casts of major historical monuments from the 12th to the 20th century--above all church portals and religious figures. Most are from the Romanesque through Gothic eras. Chartres Cathedral occupies the foreground in this image, which gives a good sense of the immensity of the space occupied by the works.
