Rail trail

Just over the road from where we live is near the beginning of the Central Otago Rail Trail. It was opened in 2000 amid many sceptical opinions. However it has been an amazing success. Thousands ride the old rail line now the rail trail from Clyde to Middlemarch , about 130kms, each year and the number continues to grow.

As you can see it long and straight like any railway line but it does have lots of interesting parts to it like the viaducts and the tunnels.

This bike ride will be the iconic ride for NZ but there are now so many fantastic rides for all abilities.

We choose parts of it now to suit us but also bike some of the other great rides all over the place.
