Sally Mair - Loving life

View from a train

I woke really early this morning, 4.30am but managed to get back to sleep till 6.30 when I gave up and fiddled around with my phone enjoying commenting on blip etc. Got up around 8 and had a long leisurely bath - my first for 4 weeks - although I did have lots of showers honest! then went down for breakfast. It's always good here with fresh oranges to squeeze.... I had about 3 glasses, so refreshing. They also have a machine which makes pancakes, they're rather sweet, but quite fun to do. It's Shrove Tuesday tomorrow, so I made a pair and lacking lemon juice, I sprinkled them with sugar and some of the squeezed orange juice - quite nice, - not as good as crepes but enjoyable. I left the hotel at the airport at 9.35, got the airport bus into Glasgow then the train to Edinburgh, Colin met me at the station and I was at home before 11. Lovely.
On the way, I spotted these fields to the south from the very empty, 7 carriage long, train!!!! I think they were between Linlithgow and Edinburgh. I was intrigued by the neatly separated areas of growth all part of a much larger field. Not so much a patchwork of fields as a field of patchwork. I'm not sure whether it was a garden centre, or part of Oatridge agricultural college - if that is still there, or whether it's a way of harvesting over a staggered period, a crop comparison or what.
It's good to be home, I relaxed a little then did most of my unpacking. This afternoon we walked down to Stockbridge and back, so plenty of steps, 17718. Having walked for a month wearing my fitflop flipflops, it was strange to have my feet restricted by laced trainers, but I'm sure I'll adapt quickly enough.
I'm looking forward to catching up with friends again now I'm back. Thanks for travelling with me over the last month.
