Rock’n’roll
In the old days they would have been hoping for an A&R man, down from London. He would only have to hear one song and he would be blown away. He would be waving his cheque-book around in no time at all. Except that he never came. Or, if he did come, he unaccountably failed to “get” them. Too old. Too square.
It was the same today. Except that the hoped-for good Fairy was not an A&R man, he was an “influencer”. But he still had the magic wand. The ability to picky the out and mark them as special.
I felt sorry for them. The guy just hadn’t shown. I’d checked out his Instagram pictures and I’d been watching out for him but nothing. And they’d played a good set, too.
Afterwards, I went into their dressing room to commiserate. But they were celebrating. The Insta-influencer had given them a “massive big-up”. Best gig he had ever seen.
Turns out some things had changed after all. The new men from Del Monte didn’t need to taste you to say Yes.
