Wide Wednesday - Neuschwanstein

An odd view of Neuschwanstein Castle, to be sure. But I had the ultra wide with me, and it was actually quite difficult to get the iconic view of the castle from the castle or even near by. You needed a drone camera really, and even if I owned one they were prohibited!

This castle was the last throw for “Mad” King Ludwig. Having spent almost every penny he had of his own money, he was the subject of a tragic accident and therefore didn’t get to plunder his aristocratic friends’ coffers... it wasn’t finished, but what is here is a wonderful reinvention of the romantic era; a fairy tale castle.

We got up at six (yes really, I know, right) to catch a two and a half hour train to the foot of the Alps. Of course, Charlie had sorted the rail tickets for us, which meant we had off peak tickets... happily the guard on the train was a lovely man with a sense of humour and we bought the correct tickets rather than take the fine and or the ejection from the train.

The castle is up a very steep road from the town, and pairs of horses draw huge carts of can’t walk won’t walk tourists up, and back down, for a few euro. The tickets are timed (we were bang on there) to the second and the tour was brilliant. It was a long day trip but well worth it.
