St Bernards
Met up with a friend for lunch in Perth today at 12 noon in the A K Bell Library café, only to discover that it closed at 12.30:-) Just time for a quick coffee and then we had to wander around looking for a lunch venue. Ended up in the New Manna House, a Christian-run café which has been closed for a refurb for many months. Very quiet (no muzak!), lovely food and the most delightful staff, so we'll definitely be returning.
Had a quick look round the shops before catching our respective buses home and came upon several of these beautiful St Bernards in the town centre. They were mostly "rescue dogs", which I initially misunderstood to mean they rescued people! It actually meant that they were rescued from people who had neglected or abandoned them or who simply couldn't look after them any more. Such gentle giants and I could easily have brought one home with me!
Good news from MiL as she was allowed out of hospital today and is making excellent progress - as long as she does what she's told! Not always easy to persuade a fiercely independent 95 year old to accept whatever help she can get:-)
