Parallel Lines

A chaotic day characterised by some rather chaotic weather. April temperatures brought April showers. I got to thinking that just as the increase of energy in the atmosphere is leading to a more chaotic climate, so an increase in the complexity of the human world is leading to more volatility and unpredictability in the same way. It is, of course, the nature of things that entropy will increase. But our planet was supposed to be the one special exception in the universe. 

It meant that it was an appropriate day to go watch Capernaum (which translates to Chaos), which was showing at the Hyde Park Picture House. I've seen most of the Oscar-nominated films this season, both English and Foreign language, and this would be my personal winner - and I think the standard this year was as high as I can ever remember.

It's an astonishing piece of film-making. No words can describe the experience of being taken down into the slums of Beirut with such heartbreaking realism. If you get a chance, go see it.
