A Swedish Saturday
Today was a major chillax and cosy day here in Sweden. This morning we watched a 50km men’s cross country ski race from Oslo. How long does a 50km (31 mile) race take? Well, with the snow falling for a lot of the race it was slower than some, and the Russian skier Alexander Bulshunov won it in 2 hours 23 minutes with two of his other Russian teammates coming in second and third. Yes, we watched every minute of it! Elisabet watched it with Swedish commentary on the TV and I watched it with English commentary on my laptop. Alice, brilliant and bilingual poodle that she is, couldn’t decide which to focus on!
We then had a short break before our next activity and went for a walk in the nature reserve where we found the first of the snowdrops - showing up quite a bit later than in England. Alice posed in front of them, but a bit reluctantly. She would much prefer to be jumping on rocks, of which there are plenty in the Swedish countryside!
After we got back and had some lunch it was time for Crufts - one of the biggest dog shows in the world, taking place all this week in England. Specifically we watched the Heelwork to Music - Freestyle International Competition, in which our blipfriends Emmy and her dog Hero were once again competing, representing Denmark. We always love watching all of the entries but it’s particularly fun to watch our friends. This year their performance was with a Flintstones theme! Well done Emmy and Hero!
As if that wasn’t enough fun for one Saturday, we had another walk and then came back to afternoon tea and Hot Cross Buns which I had brought by special request from England. This evening we watched the movie ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ and there were possibly some tears shed over that, though it had a very happy ending!
A perfect way to spend a Saturday in Sweden!
