Climbing the Forth Bridge
Yesterday was International Women Day, something that passed us by in Bridge of Allan.
I have little claim to fame but once, many years ago, I became the first woman to climb the Forth Bridge in Edinburgh.
Women were forbidden on the bridge but after the Equality Act they were allowed and my Features Editor at the time in Edinburgh thought it would be a great idea to send a woman reporter to the top.
So that was my assignment one morning when I walked into the office. I was gobsmacked.
The first photographer allocated to come with me refused because he had no head for heights.
Another one had to be found, and the pair of us trotted off for one of the most unusual jobs in our lives.
And I have women’s liberation to thank for that.
