Fairy Forest
In Drumshanbo in County Leitrim for for some traditional music this weekend and went for a walk in a lovely wood nearby called Knockranny on the shores of Lough Meelagh. There is a magical atmosphere to the place: thick green moss covers everything, there is a crannog in the loch and there are stones from a prehistoric tomb hidden among the ivy and greenery. It's like something out of Lord of the Rings. The 17th century blind harpist O'Carolan (famous for O'Carolan's Concerto) is buried on the shores of the Loch. Saw a snipe among the reeds and a great crested grebe on the loch.
