WHAT A VIEW
Magnificent. This is after the horizontal snow we had early this morning. None left here, but gathered on the high road verges towards Lerwick.
We went into town for G's newspaper and a fire engine roared out from the fire station. I did wonder where it was going as to hear a siren on Shetland seems rare compared to where we live. Later that afternoon, back home watching the rugby, a newsflash came up. The Fair Isle Bird Observatory was on fire, the roof ablaze. So that's where they were off to, airlifted by helicopter to Fair Isle, along with another two crews later I read, plus the Lifeboat on the way. No injuries have been reported which is a godsend, but how devastating to the Island and to the famous Observatory.
I'm thinking there will need to be a big fundraising effort for the repair work. The Island's reliance on visitors, most of whom, as we, stay at he Bird Observatory, must be huge.
Good wishes to all there, am thinking of you.
