Probably the worst...
.... Photo I've ever posted on blip - although I'm happy for you to point out other contenders in my journal if you're a picky, pedantic sort of person with time to waste.
But what do you expect when it is absolutely hacking down with rain and I'm sat in the car in the middle of a flooded section of my One Street (Lane) ?
The Dacorum Council highways team have failed to grasp the basic fact that water flows downhill. They thought is would be a grand scheme in road maintenance to put kerb stones and a cute little drain in the dip in my lane.
Previously, surface water flowed off the road to the right into a huge pit. Now water sits in a great lake blocked by their road improvement scheme and it causes multiple minor accidents. The constant water and frost has caused the tarmac surface to crumble forming numerous potholes, but that is brilliant because it creates jobs for the boys.
This is how the job creation scheme works:
1.Car drives through pothole and causing tyre to burst or wheel to buckle.
2. Driver takes image of pothole and sends to Highways dept with copy of invoice for new wheel.
3. Highways dept send out a man in a car to do a recce. He sprays yellow paint round offending hole and returns to office.
4. Weeks later the repair team arrive, park lorry, close lane with cones, have a brew. Driver stays in cab. 2 blokes watch the 4th tip some tarmac into hole. 2nd bloke tamps it down, 3rd bloke supervises the cones.
5. Ignoring the other 6 potholes that have formed since the spray paint was applied, they have another brew, eat a few pies, gather the cones and drive away. Work done for the day.
Repeat steps 1 - 5 throughout the year.
ALL IT NEEDS IS THE KERB STONES TO BE REMOVED SO THE WATER CAN FLOW AWAY.
Frustrated? Moi? What ever gave you that idea.
Actually, when I grow up I'd like to be a road maintenance lorry driver, you drive to your destination, locate the yellow spray, wait, then drive back to the depot.. Nice.
On a brighter note, thank you all for your comments on yesterday's blip - it made the spotlight!!!
