Stars

I went out in the very early hours (just after midnight) to watch the meteor shower and saw quite a few shooting stars, in fact when I went out I heard two!!! If it wasnt meteors I heard I have no idea what it was...it sounded like something "whooshing" past very quickly!! I was disappointed I didn't manage to capture a shooting star. Anyone have any advice on how to set the camera up for this kind of shot?
