Still on Holiday!
We never want to go home!!
We explored a bit further afield today ending up about eighteen miles along the coast at the incredible Holkham Beach.
First of all we went to Morston Quay and met my mum and dad in the National Trust car park. We bought coffee and sat watching the birds in the marshes. It's mesmerising!! There was an old couple sat on a bench looking through binoculars and I was jealous!!! I want to sit all day looking at amazing scenery and wildlife. With my husband. And a flask of tea and some pork pies. And maybe some Victoria sponge!!
Unfortunately the Little Misses and Archie aren't really programmed to sit all day so after buying some books in the National Trust bookshop we headed off to the bright lights of downtown Wells Next The Sea.
Like Clay, Wells isn't Next The Sea at all but over a mile inland. It has a lovely waterfront though and so many pretty boats and birds!!
The Little Misses made a beeline straight for the arcade. As usual they got through their money in record time. Miss L managed to enjoy the experience, just shrugged when she had no more money and happily collected up her tickets for some naff prize!
Miss E did not!!! She's like an addict shrieking that she needs just one more go. Just one more. I'll win. It's about to drop off. I just need one more £1 and I'll win.
And on and on and on until everyone gets cross and we leave in a black cloud of crossness and sulkiness!!!!
Anyway........
Then it was ice cream and a failed attempt to get fish and chips. Or food of any description.
The bright lights of downtown Wells were starting to get on my nerves. I get cross when I don't eat!!! So we headed just up the road to Holkham Beach.
Happiness restored! What an amazing place!!
Once we'd parked (and the parking man had kindly offered to refund Mr K's money because he'd been honest and paid the £12 for oversized vehicles which apparently no-one must ever do!!) we met my mum and dad walking back from the beach and said our goodbyes. They're heading home today.
Then it was to the beach. A boardwalk leads through the pine trees and then it just opens out in front of you. The tide was out so the beach was immense!
And the sun was just starting to go down so it was all bathed in amazing light. Wonderful!
As we headed back to the boardwalk we saw an owl hunting really close to us. We have been incredibly lucky with our own sightings! It flew back and forth in front of us for ages.
We walked back to Marshall through the nature reserve seeing the owl again, deer, rabbits, ducks, geese, unidentified waders and a beautiful red kite.
I love the picture of the Little Misses by the pond in the sunset. It really is a magical place.
By the time we got back to Marshall it was more or less dark so we headed home. Via the Co-Op in Wells to get the Little Misses some food. They'd only had ice cream and snacks since breakfast!!
