Fallen Leaf Lake

This was our destination today—ski/snowshoe on a couple miles of easy trail through open meadow, pine forest and aspen grove. We had our lunch on a sunny log with this incredible view of snow mountains and alpine lake. It was a glorious day, a thin blanket of soft new snow covering any old tracks, bright blue sky and comfortable temperature. Being embraced by the aspen grove was magical on a primal level. It felt like those gentle trees were welcoming me, calling me home.
