Off-Cut Project
Mrs SoL asked me to make a Planter for one of her plants. I think it is called a Versailles Pot, but can be corrected if wrong. I have quite a bit of wood sitting around in the workshop (actually the garage, but a car would struggle to get inside). I decided to see whether I could make one using all the odd bits I had lying around. The only thing I had to buy in the end were the finials. Again, being the cheapskate that I am, I thought that the cheapest hardware shop furniture feet would do just as well as perfectly round wooden balls. Mrs SoL did point out that she had seen Monty (or was it Geoff?) use old ballcocks from toilets as the finials. Shame she told me after I had bought them. I don’t have any old ballcocks lying around the place, so that would have been an adventure in itself trying to find them at the old brocante. The wood is actually all treated for outdoor use already; the original wood purchase had been for fencing. I have snapped the unpainted version, so that Mrs SoL can present the final painted version as her blip at some later stage. Time taken - about 3 hours in all. Cost - 20 euros. Now, what’s next, theTaj Mahal made out of old packing crates?
