Mer Ray Christmas - Not the usual Christmas Wreath

A little bit of a Christmas theme going on in the ray egg case tank at work at the moment. The baby ray seems to be closely inspecting the tinsel and candy canes.

Dried and empty ray egg cases can often be found on the beaches around Britain and are commonly known as a Mermaid's Purse, but for those that are fertilised and not wash ashore, it can take up to 9 months for a baby ray to emerge from it's case

Some the ones that have been laid in the Aquarium have been put on display in this special tank and as the babies develop and take nourishment from the case, the wall of the case becomes more transparent and eventually you can see the baby wriggling around inside.
