Strange Tree

We ran across this tree on a delightful trail in the Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area. The spiraled vine is actually huge and there were quite a few similar vines along the trail. The outgrowth from the tree looked like the head of a strange animal. We were there at sunset and the golden light combined to make for a very fun view.
