The Pond Below the Cabin

We hiked in the 3/4 mile trail up to Kent and Joy's cabin between the Columbia River and Mt Adams in Washington State. I was amazed at how often I stopped to rest; the elevation gain isn't that great, but the flu takes a toll, it seems.
Kent is so near the end; he no longer eats or drinks, but he looks good and doesn't appear distressed. It was very comforting to see him exactly where he'd want to be. I'm so glad we made the trip: the drive through the beautiful Columbia Gorge, the hike through the woods, the time spent with Kent, Joy, and their daughter, Tanja, and especially, the time spent with Eric.
