A lot better
Mr T was much brighter today, and his joints have improved overnight with the steroids, however the nurse said he still has a lot of fluid retention due to the sepsis. They weighed him today and he has gained 5kg despite not eating for 5 days. She said it is to do with the sepsis causing the fluid to leak out of the capillaries and into the tissues.
The doctor came back to see him, and said his MRCP results weren't back so he may or may not have the ERCP tomorrow. The doctors should be around about 07:30 -08:00 and I have permission to go in early and be there when they come around. She was amazed at the change in him overnight and said she had learnt something!
There are still some questions we need to ask them, and the blood tests results are improving but still not normal. The liver function tests are described as deranged which amused him! His kidney function has also improved, and there is still evidence of the infection in his bloods. I think we still have a way to go, and the longer term prognosis will become clear in due course.
Today was the first day he had stayed awake all day so it was nice and I was offered a wheelchair so I could take him out. We went into the staff restaurant for a cup of coffee, and it felt a little bit like "normal". It tickled me that he was worried about people seeing his catheter bag, yet on ITU he had to keep being told to cover himself up as he kept lifting his gown up! I haven't told him about that yet!
He says thank you to everyone for all the kind thoughts and best wishes.
