Today we attended round 7 of the NCSBS at Woolgoolga. The boats are launched from the beach and at the start of the race the crews hold the boat in waist deep water, jump in on the starting pistol, row out to a bouy and then surf back in over the start finish line. Generally there are about four boats in each race. A sport for both women and men.

The North Coast Surf Boat Series has been running since 1994.

Surf boat rowing is an iconic part of surf life saving. Surf boats were the original rescue craft and are still used today as rescue craft, although today's hybrid craft is designed as a racing craft.

North Coast Surf Boat Series aims is promote the surf life saving movement as well as the sporting component. The image of the Aussie surf life saver is undeniably iconic.
